According to the Indianapolis Calligraphy Guild, some ILLUMINATED MANUSCRIPTS from the St John's Bible will be on display during the month of August at the Benedict I in Beach Grove.
(a n area in the south of Indianapolis--go to mapquest.com to locate) The St. John's Bible is the first handwritten illuminated Bible created using ancient methods since the invention of the printing press more than 500 years ago. It is a blend of age-old techniques and materials with modern themes and images. This seen volume master work of calligraphy and art was commissioned by St. John's University and Abbey in Minnesota. For the past seven years a team of scribes and artists, led by master calligrapher Donald Jackson have worked diligently to create the work that has come to be known as {"America's Book of Kells." The result is a magnificent representation and celebration of the written word.

Also during the month of August several workshops on calligraphy will be presented by Erika Woods, Visio Divina and others at the Benedict Inn REtreat and Conference Center 1402 Southern Avenue, Beach Grove, IN.

There will be a workshop with Judy Melvin in October 2010 entitled "Neuland with an Attitude." For questions contact EBSimon@aol.com
